How to Prepare for Your Bridal Makeup Appointment

Your bridal makeup appointment is the calm centre of a very busy day — and the more you prepare in the weeks before, the more it stays that way. This is the exact guidance we give every Blush Bar bride at her consultation, from skincare timelines to the small things worth packing in your bag on the morning of the barat.

Six to eight weeks before: skin first

Beautiful bridal makeup starts with calm, hydrated skin — no product can fake that. Six to eight weeks out is the window where small habits make a visible difference:

• Settle a simple routine. Cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen daily. This is not the time to experiment with new actives — anything that could purge or irritate should be trialled months earlier or skipped.
• Book facials early, not late. If you do facials, have the last one at least a week before the event so any redness has fully settled.
• Threading and waxing. Schedule brows and facial threading two to three days before the makeup day, never the morning of — freshly threaded skin can react under a full base.
• Hydrate boringly and consistently. Water, sleep and less caffeine in the final week beat any last-minute mask.

Two to three weeks before: the trial

A trial (or at minimum, a detailed consultation) is where your look stops being a Pinterest board and becomes a plan. Bring three things:

1. Photos of your outfit — front, back, and a close-up of the embroidery colours.
2. Your jewellery, or clear photos of it, so we can plan the dupatta and jewellery setting.
3. Two or three inspiration looks — and, just as useful, one look you don’t want.

The best bridal makeup is not the most makeup — it is the look that still feels like you when you catch yourself in the mirror at 11 pm.

At the trial, tell your artist honestly how makeup usually behaves on you: does base oxidise, do your eyes water, does your skin drink blush? Every answer changes a product choice on the day.

Every product on your face that day should have earned its place at the trial.

The week of: logistics are self-care

• Confirm your slot time and work backwards from the photographer’s schedule — tell us your departure time, and we plan the chair time around it.
• Mehndi timing: if you are having henna, finish it at least a day before makeup so the skin around your hands and arms is settled for photos.
• Wash your hair the night before (unless we advise otherwise for your style) — freshly washed, product-free hair holds styling best.
• Arrive in a button-down or zip-up — nothing that pulls over your finished hair and face.

Finish mehndi at least a day ahead — settled henna photographs deeper and cleaner.

What to bring on the day

• Your full outfit, dupatta and every piece of jewellery (in one labelled pouch, ideally).
• Comfortable flat shoes for the chair hours — heels go on at the end.
• A light snack and water. Barat days are long; do not start them hungry.
• Contact lenses if you wear them — put them in before eye makeup. Lenses are also available at the salon if you would like to try a shade.
• Your phone, fully charged, with the inspiration photos saved offline.

On the morning: your only job is to sit still

Come with a clean, moisturised face (skip sunscreen on the makeup day — we will handle protection in the base), settled hair, and your things in one bag. Then hand the day over. The chair is quiet, the tea is warm, and by the time you stand up, the mirror will do the talking.
